The United States Air Force constructed Kadena Air Base on the existing runways used by the Japanese army during World War 2. The Air Force shares the runway with both the Navy and Army for reconnaissance missions, logistics and routine flight drills. Unsurprisingly, a storm is brewing on the other side of the wall.
A 2011 survey by Okinawa prefecture shows that in one day approx. 65.7 recordings were triggered by higher than average noise levels. The loudest noise reached 104.5db which is equivalent to a power lawn mower engine, a jackhammer or a garbage truck.
